Confession - I am a licensed nail technician as of 10 years ago (eek) and up until this summer I absolutely despised doing my own manicures. I actually had acrylic (double eek) until a year ago. Never again. So now that I am over being too good to do my own mani’s I’m having a BLAST playing with all of the options. Last week I played with SPARKLES and this week I mix it up.
This week I played with new Essie fall colors from their Brand New Bag collection; gifted to me at Lucky Magazine’s LuckyFabb. The light shade is: Lady Like and the darker shade is: Carry On.
I had fun with mixing the light and dark shades, painting 4 nails a shade and 1 nail with the contrasting shade per hand. One hand being mostly dark and one hand mostly light. What do you think? Would you try this?
PS - One trick I learned as a nail tech was that this OUT THE DOOR top coat is amaze! Not only does it leave you with shiny nails but it really does dry in about a minute. I get mine at the local Sally’s Beauty Supply.
Embracing small town living in the Northwest means getting familiar with activities that take place in the fields. And hey… it’s actually a pretty good time. My sisters and I went hunting for the perfect pair of pumpkins and in search of fresh cider last weekend… the proof in pictures
A weekend in the country getting cozy with nature
I picked a white one to jewel and a plump orange one to carve
Wagons are for hauling handbags, no?
Ok… I’ll put a pumpkin in it
Fresh apple fritters, YUM

A fall manicure might not be as bright as those of summer days past but they can be just as gorgeous and fun. This manicure was inspired by Emily of cupcakes and cashmere, she has an amazing way with creative mani’s.
I used Toff by butter London c/o Zappos and Glamour Purse by and c/o Essie. Get crafty with fine glitter to add sparkle. Don’t let the stripes and polka dots intimidate you, have fun with them… perfection is overrated. For your sparkle finger: use one coat of clear polish, sprinkle with glitter (remove excess) and use 2 coats of shiny top coat.
Will you get creative with your mani’s this fall? If you try this, tweet me pictures @vafashiongirl I would love to see!
Last month I entered a contest with White House Black Market at Lucky Magazine’s, Lucky Fabb conference. To my surprise I was chosen as one of five finalists for their Blogger Style competition! THANK YOU to everyone who voted, it was such a fun event.
Not only did I win a $150 gift card but they sent me one to give to YOU too! It came in the cutest jeweled and mirrored case… it’s all in the details. I purchased the amazing leather skirt that’s featured in their fall ad campaign and I am so excited for it to get here.
Now on to the good stuff! To enter:

This past Sunday I headed out to the pumpkin patch with my sisters in search of the perfect pumpkin to sparkle! We found perfectly plump white ones that turned out fabulous!
It was cold, wet and rainy… typical for the great NW of course. Dressing appropriately and cute was quite the task. Here’s the breakdown on my ensemble:
Men’s Style Shirt: Trouve’
Riding Pants: Joes Jeans
Gold & Acrylic Watch: Toy Watch
Over The Knee Boots: Emu
I love October… Fall weather, Halloween, Scary Movies and Pumpkin EVERYTHING. From coffee to carving, I love pumpkin! And although I love typical Halloween decor, I decided to glam it up a bit this year. What girl doesn’t love sparkle?
The supplies:Mod Podge, Silver Glitter, Foam Brushes and WHITE Pumpkins (Orange ones do not work well).
Clean and dry off the pumpkins to ensure that the sparkles stick! Use either newspaper or a plastic garbage bag to cover your work surface (I cut a large black garbage bag in half to cover the dining room table). Cover the entire surface with Mod Podge using a foam brush.
Once the glue is a tad tacky, pour the glitter (any color works) over the entire pumpkin so that none of the white shows through. Excess sparkles can even be reused!
You can even get creative with stripes!
Multi colored stripes and polka dotted baby pumpkins!
Chances are that if you love fashion, you were watching the E Red Carpet coverage with the rest of us fashion obsessed on Sunday evening. For the most part I was disappointed, the lack of creativity and class was immense. The ones that that got it right were few and far between but boy were they AMAZE! Red is hot hot hot for fall, one glance at Kate or Nina and you’ll see why. A glamorous mix of curve hugging fabulousness and class done oh so well.
Can’t afford these Elie Saab or Donna Karan frocks? No worries dear, we’ve got you covered with the look for less. They might not get you interviewed by Guilianna or Ryan, but they will get you noticed. This we promise.
PS- there is no such thing as the 360 Glam Cam IRL… or we’d all be in trouble, even with our spanx. So rock the red with confidence.
Red screams, look at me so making sure your hair, makeup and nails are equally fabulous is a must. And a side note for you red heads (you can wear red!). Whether you go for a rent the runway selection perfect for a glam night our or a more day appropriate dress, red is all the rage for fall. Go ahead and werk it.
